The taste of a breakfast gone horrible wrong still lingered on his palette. Leo had woken up early just as the sun had been rising, since he couldn't find a village or town the night before he did what he always did. Make camp. Since he had no real destination in mind right now, nor did he have any hires. The young lad knew he would need to find a good job before too long since his coin was running a little low. After packing his things up to head out, Leo stacked and tied everything to the saddle of his horse. The horse had been with him since the last village he visited. After all, one could only travel by foot for so long until you tire and need to find other means of travel.
When he finally set out over the grassier part of the mountains, the sound of a rumble in the distance made him turn and glance over his shoulder. "Great, just what I don't need." He mumbled. This was not his first time traveling over the Trugin mountains, so he knew just how fast the weather could change. When he had woken up this morning it had been sunny. Now it was partly overcast with a storm moving his way. A click of his tongue gave the signal to the horse to begin gallop. Leo needed to stay ahead of this storm. Maybe he should head to the west. The storm in question was heading south which is the way he was heading, so with a pull on the reigns he turned the horse towards the west.
Here was to hoping that the storm continued on its course. But, knowing how the weather was out here in the open it could change in the blink of an eye. To the west was the kingdom of Louthia, he'd head there and see if anyone was hiring for bounties or any other kind of work. | You were sharp as a knife to get me You were a wolf in the night to fetch me back The wishes I've made are too vicious to tell Everyone knows I am going to Hell ˹ ˼ |

It wasn't often that Harvey left his stomping ground of Lullin Town, much less out of the eastern territory at all. He didn't enjoy doing so, as he always felt so unprepared, no matter how much time he spent trying to. He never brought enough layers, or brought too much. Especially considering how infamous he had heard that this mountain was to cross. A real pain in the ass, he had heard. Someone had even told him to not even bother; and to wait it out or to let someone else go ahead and take care of it for him. But that wasn't how Harvey had been able to stay in business for so long, in the place he lived in, and with him being as young as he was. If you wanted to get shit done, especially if it was a big deal, like this one had been- you went in and did it yourself. Which on all accounts, would seem contradictory to the attitude in which he had once prided himself in; having his cake and eating it too. But shit didn't work like that once your name was on that sign above the door. In a way, he had liked the way that things had turned out. It had forced him to grow up a lot, considering how much of an immature brat he had been when he had inherited his business. He had never really had anyone depend on him before- for reliable service and even to some- employment. It was a strange place for a former street rat to be in, but Harvey liked to think that he had long since grown into the role. So it was because of this gradual process that had brought Harvey to his least favorite sort of environment- the fucking cold. Or at least to him, it was cold. Bundled up on the horse he had bought for just this trip, Harvey had turned to mumbling to himself with no other source of companionship aside from the four legged beast underneath him. Stella, as he had learned was her name, didn't seem terribly interested in his complaining. Harvey supposed one of them had to focus on the road ahead of them; as the townsfolk from the village he had just left warned had a storm on their radar. Unfortunately for Harvey, he didn't have the luxury of time on his side anymore. The meeting between him and the final buyer was in two days, and he had to be back in Lullin by then- if not sooner. Harvey touched the small, brown leather pouch attached to his hip underneath his cloak, relieved to find that the vial was still safely inside. One crack in the thin glass, and this whole expedition was moot. His time would have been wasted, and Harvey didn't particularly like it when his time was wasted. But the buyer for whatever the hell this was promised such a large sum for the damned thing that he would be set up for at least six months. Time seemed to slow on this mountain, all by himself with Stella. It felt like hours since he had left that small village, and perhaps it truly had been. Harvey felt uneasy, as he knew that bandits tended to lurk around these paths with hopes of luring dumb looking fucks, perhaps not too dissimilar to himself; who were isolated and/or alone and were an easy target to rob. What was strange that it was only after dwelling on this possibility that Harvey heard the soft clamor of hooves behind him. Another rider? This early in the morning? Harvey frowned and forced his horse to stop, and to turn in the direction of the other rider. "Hey you! What are you doing here? State your business!"

So far his ride had been a smooth one, besides the looming storm. But that didn't mean anything couldn't happen. He could be attacked by bandits or thieves, they could jump out from behind rocks or bushes. Drop down from the sky. Ever since what happened back home, Leo knew he had to keep his guard up whenever he traveled anywhere. It's been two years but even so, he was a traitor. At least in the crowns eyes he was a traitor. Practicing on those dummies was one thing, but when it came to the real thing....he couldn't bring himself to take their lives. If his father saw him now he wondered what he would say or how he would even react. Not that he really cared, being a bounty hunter. A hired blade was better than rotting in a cell and being in irons.
With a light tug on the reins he finally slowed the horse to a walk, it was then he heard the sound of a voice. Asking what he was doing here and to state his business. Looking forward he saw a figure who was also on a horse, Leo frowned as he nudged the horse lightly forward. "Why should I answer you? Is that how you greet all travelers you see?" This was the first person he's seen since he had left that last village. And the first thing they ask him is to state his business. "Listen, I don't want any trouble alright. I'm just trying to head to Louthia and keep ahead of that." With a gesture of his thumb, Leo pointed behind him at the dark clouds and rumble of thunder in the distance.
"So far it's been staying the course of South, but storms change direction all the time. What are you doing here? Seems only fair I ask the same question." Leo made his horse come to a full stop once he was close enough to the other. | You were sharp as a knife to get me You were a wolf in the night to fetch me back The wishes I've made are too vicious to tell Everyone knows I am going to Hell ˹ ˼ |
